We’re seeking a Counsel, based in ourDenver, Colorado Office. Reporting to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, you will provide global legal support to the Digital, Strategy and Innovation business units of The Western Union Company. You will serve as a trusted business partner to business unit management and will participate as a key member of the legal team.

The primary responsibilities of this role include: advising on regulatory requirements related to money transfer, counseling stakeholders on risks associated with global digital expansion and with strategic initiatives, and providing legal support with respect to corporate commercial matters.

  • Review, draft and negotiate agreements with Western Union moneytransfer prospects and vendors in coordination with responsible businessleaders and other internal stakeholders.

  • Provide legal assistance to senior lawyers in the department.

  • Provide legal advice to business partners within the company andcoordinates with outside counsel.

  • Research and analyze the law on moderately complex issues.

  • Develop organizational policies.

  • Participate on internal consumer protection and risk committees.

  • Stay current and advise on changes to the regulatory andcompetitive environments globally.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Eight plus years of experience in a law firm or corporate legaldepartment of a multi-national corporation (preferably engaged in the provisionof financial services and/or regulation of financial services), with emphasison digital money transfer and digital payments.

  • Experiencein dealing directly with business clients at all levels, both inside andoutside of the organization, but in particular in counseling senior businessclients.

  • Experiencein negotiating contracts in diverse cultures with a high degree ofsophistication and creativity.

  • Willingness to question the status quo and advocate for necessarychange to improve internal processes and how the company contracts withbusiness partners and customers

  • Holds Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited school of law(or equivalent from another country), admitted to at least one U.S. state bar.
