Right now, we areseeking a Senior Software Engineer , based at Western Union’s Digital headquarters in Denver, Colorado or San Francisco, California. Application Architects are part of the Western Union Go-Tech organization designing, building, enhancing and supporting the enterprise class systems that power Western Union. This role works across the IT organization and with business partners to define and build out complex solutions and drive value through business process simplification, automation and new product capabilities. You will play a critical role in designing and developing scalable, message based, event driven microservice-oriented systems.

This role will drive thefollowing responsibilities:

  • Leadthe design and documentation of the application architecture of digitalbackend systems.

  • Documentand present the solutions to Senior-level management.

  • Participatein the definition and launch of application development projects and leadtechnical reviews and health checks at appropriate project milestones.

  • Augmentbusiness strategy with expertise on technology drivers and trends andcreates a technology vision

  • Helpdefine business and technology strategy and enabling capabilities

  • Definethe future state and create principles and standards to get there

  • Balancetrade-offs between short-term business gain and long-term strategy

  • Determineroadmaps and ensure execution plans are aligned with business goals

  • Setclear technical and architectural design direction

  • Monitorprogress of sprints to strategy

  • Maintainalignment of execution with strategy

  • Assistexecution teams with leveraging standards, best practices, and solvingcomplex technical problems

  • Assistwith complex operational issues

  • Measureoutcome against expected business and technology goals

  • Evaluateimpacts to strategy and provide clear directions

  • Identifyopportunities for the harvesting and reuse of application components

  • Planthe design, development, integration and implementation of allarchitectural components of the application solution that:

  • Reflecta best-practices approach to the execution of business processes

  • Enforcethe reuse of standards, leverage tools, application frameworks andcomponents, practices and approved technologies

  • Optimizecost structures

  • Meetsecurity and privacy standards and regulatory requirements

  • Ensurethe application design enables testing and considers system managementand operational support.

  • Documentdependencies between application architectural components.

  • Identifyrisks and provide solutions to a specific area or architectural component.

  • Assessimpact of component changes to proposed architectures and/or businessdirection as required. Participate in the management of change.

  • Monitortechnological trends and recommend appropriate application architecture(e.g, cloud, better tools)

  • Maximizereuse of standard services and capabilities

  • Adhereto software engineering standards and best practice

  • Providetechnical leadership, mentor others and provide succession planning

  • Collaboratewith Realogy colleagues and ensure knowledge sharing

  • SupportPM/Delivery Manager in planning of security component of the program

  • Experiencein designing and implementing .NET and/or JAVA/J2EE based applicationsincluding UI frameworks

Desired qualificationsinclude:

  • Minimumof a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • 10+ years of programming, design and architecture experience of mid to largescale systems and applications; 5+ years leading technologytransformation.

  • Strongworking knowledge of major application development platforms/languageslike Microsoft .NET, Java, HTML/DHTML, XML, SOAP, JavaScript, MVCpatterns, SQL, C#, C/C++ Strongexperience in enterprise application integration including SOA, BPM, APIs,Web Services (SOAP/RESTful), Micro Services, Containerization

  • Experiencewith JMS API Programming Model (publish/subscribe)

  • Experiencewith using XML, XSD, JSON and other data payload formats

  • Experiencewith BizTalk development

  • Experiencein data architecture and design across ETL, DWH and Analytics; Big Data,Hadoop, SQL and NOSQL databases

  • Strongexperience in Cloud (AWS/Azure/Google or Hybrid) based architecturedesigns and implementations

  • Experiencein DevOps stack (CI & CD) and other dependency management and buildtools such as Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, Ant and Ivy

  • Experiencewith Agile software development practices and tools

  • Experiencein the FinTech domain.
