We’re seeking an experienced lawyer as Director, Technology Counsel based in Denver, Colorado . In this role, you will provide legal support for technology initiatives across the company.

  • Provide legal advice regarding information technology matters, including in connection with the development of products, platforms, services and other strategic technology initiatives.

  • Draft and negotiate contracts for technology agreements, outsourcing and software licensing transactions Embed with the product and engineering teams to understand the company’s products and provide business savvy legal advice.

  • Manage new technology initiatives and related projects by providing strategic input, and tracking and prioritizing technology initiatives.

  • Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies, including Internet of Things, mobile apps, artificial intelligence, information security technologies, and data platforms.

  • Partner with business units to help drive a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk identification and assessment.

  • Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer and InfoSec team members to ensure the proper oversight of security and incident response matters, including response to potential security, data incidents, and forensics.

  • Report key performance indicators and other department metrics.

  • Develop innovative practices that comply with legal and regulatory requirements as well as serve strategic business needs.

  • Provide leadership on enhancing and implementing a global technology, legal framework that works well within a matrixed organization by incorporating global level policies, standards, controls and operational procedures.

  • Provide effective leadership, management and implementation support to drive effectiveness, risk mitigation strategies and core technical capabilities.

  • Educate all Western Union teams within the Americas region on technology and its components through training, awareness and communication activities.

  • Provide guidance to business partners on requirements for technology associated with current and future business strategies, including to the marketing, AML, Risk, Operations and HR departments.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Significant technology experience, including advising on a variety of customer and partner technology platforms

  • Technology or engineering background or degree highly preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confident presentation skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Ability to manage direct reports, drive cross-functional projects and project teams

  • Ability to manage complex, long-term initiatives

  • Ability to influence and challenge business partners in a constructive and persuasive manner Ability to arrive at creative solutions

  • Ability to distill privacy concepts and requirements into clear recommendations for business partners

  • Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and PowerPoint are desirable

What will make you stand out:

  • Law degree from ABA accredited law school

  • Must be admitted to practice law in at least one state 6-9 years of experience
