Right now, we are seeking a Senior Cloud SolutionsArchitect based at Western Union’s Global Headquarters in Englewood, Colorado location.

In this role, you will be the cloud expert on a team of 7-10 highly skilled engineers and architects around some of the most complex projects in WU’s environment as a part of the Architecture Review Board. You will provide end-to-end cloud infrastructure oversight of all new projects in the TDD (Technical Design Documentation) phase. You will be responsible for designing standardized and reusable processes, policies, and governance that not only enables our product development teams achieve their goals, but to also meet Western Union’s requirements for speed, resiliency, performance, and security; while providing an exceptional automated and self-service customer-experience.


  • Develop, lead and deliverlarge-scale AWS cloud application development and transformationengagements, helping enterprise teams understand cloud considerations,develop cloud application strategies and helping refactor existingapplications for AWS, as well as develop new AWS-based cloud-nativeapplications

  • Build prove of concept projectsleveraging various AWS services

  • Implement modern engineering,DevOps and CI/CD programs, best practices

  • Developing technical andsecurity specifications for the targeted applications/workloads in AWS

  • Develop and implementapplication modernization, refactoring, and migration approaches totransition applications workloads from On-Premises to AWS

  • Develop and implement newcloud-native applications and solutions on AWS

  • Developing, presenting anddelivery large-scale application modernization roadmap plans as part ofenterprise AWS migrations

  • Lead and mentor medium to largesized teams in the migration workloads or implementations of applicationand services to the cloud in large enterprise environment

  • Document and share technicalbest practices across WU enterprise

Required Skills

  • Hand-onexperiences with continuous deployment in DevOps w/ technologies like Chefand Puppet, building web & mobile scale-out applications usingMemcached or Redis, RDBMS (MySQL, AWS Aurora, Oracle, SQL Server, andPostgres) and/or NoSQL (AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB, and Cassandra) data stores,building micro-services align with functional use case and implementingbig data analytics w/ technologies like Hadoop, Spark, EMR, RedShift, andKinesis.

  • BS degree inComputer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g.,physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.

  • 6+ years design& implementation experience with distributed applications

  • 3+ years ofexperience in networking; infrastructure or database architecture

  • 2+ yearsarchitecting and implementing Amazon Web Services infrastructure andtopologies

  • Experience withcontainers and container scheduling and management platforms such as:Docker, rkt, Mesos, or Kubernetes

  • Experience withdevelopment using Github or Bitbucket

  • Experience inAgile and Iterative development methodologies

  • Experience in oneor more of the following: C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Perl, Ruby or shellscripting.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with“on-premise to cloud” migrations or IT transformations

  • Experiencearchitecting/operating solutions build on AWS

  • Excellentcommunication skills with an ability to right level conversations

  • Presentationskills with a high degree of comfort speaking with executives, ITManagement, and developers

  • Demonstratedability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

  • Ability to serveas a cloud technology/DevOps evangelist with existing traditional andnewly formed product development teams

  • Interest indesigning, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

  • Systematicproblem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and asense of ownership and drive.

  • Experience andunderstanding of FINTECH or other highly regulated industry, including butnot limited to PCI, RegE, Card Association Rules and NACHA

  • Ability to debugand optimize code and automate routine tasks.
