We’re seeking a Operational Lean Expert Leader based in Denver, Colorado office (global headquarters). In this role, you will be responsible for driving the lean deployment strategy and execution for the WU Way. The WU Way is “how” we will execute Western Union’s strategy and the culture change needed to deliver top line growth. In addition, you will be responsible for implementing lean management systems across all 11,500+ employees of the Company globally and implementing the necessary change management at all levels of the organization to drive the change. The WU Way has specific deliverables: WU Way efficiency targets ($385M by 2020), changing the way we work (training 90% of the workforce in lean by 2020) and deliver growth (mid-high single digits by 2020), and this role is expected to implement the lean deployment strategies to create an operationally disciplined environment to deliver on those goals.

Develop and implement the WU Way lean deployment roadmap to support the “how” of the Western Union corporate strategy.The lean management systems & tools must be delivered at all levels of the organization from the board level to all associate level employees worldwide.Has the authority to adjust roadmap & staffing decisions to deliver the most efficient rollout plan.
Based on knowledge of lean and change management, lead global deployment teams comprised of architects/site leaders, implementation leaders, and change agents to unlock capacity gains of 20-30% across the organization. Responsible for helping mid/senior level management teams to appropriately track & analyze operational KPIs to ensure value capture.
Has authority to identify when leaders are achieving adoption or are not in line with WU Way standards and has access to escalate this to the Executive Team, specifically the CEO. Success in this area should lead to improved Organizational Health scores which will contribute to our top level strategic metrics for the company.
Has the authority to drive the content, approach, scale and scope of all WU Way employee lean deployments globally.Responsible for ensuring that all WU employees reach Level 2 certification: Completion of Lean Deployment by 2020.
Responsible to decide the necessary WU Way content that should be embedded in our existing HR practices.Examples include incorporating behaviors (the 5 betters) in our empowerment practices, including lean leader tools and behaviors to be included in our hiring practices, including lean leader tools in our promotion practices, etc.As this role is not directly responsible for these HR practices, this person must have the necessary influencing skills in order to accomplish this indirectly.
Develop and implement a program to ensure sustainability & success of lean deployments after the deployment ends.Examples include methods to reward and recognize employees that are truly exhibiting WU Way through use of lean tools, demonstration of market shaper practices or demonstration of the 5 betters.This program should drive change as desired behaviors are publicly recognized while those demonstrating our “old” way of working will not be recognized.This should also improve Organizational Health scores related to the Wu Way tools and market shaper practice of “rewards and recognition”.
Create a global network of change leaders who are able to implement lean deployments around the world.Responsible for selecting change agents, engaging with them, developing and deliver content to increase their understanding of the WU Way and create connection from very distant offices to the WU Way and to one another.Outcomes will include greater knowledge of the WU Way in all offices and preliminary use of WU Way tools such as huddles, KPIs, and problem solving.
Responsible to develop the WU Way Lean Center of Excellence, designed to maintain the centralized capabilities needed for complex End to End lean deployments that are focused on customer & agent experience.
What you will need to succeed:
Ability to lead a large global organization working with multiple teams across the company.Expect 6-10 direct reports, and total team of 50-70 working in 20+ markets.
Demonstrated experience leading implementation of lean management systems
Demonstrated experience leading organizational wide transformational change
Strong written and verbal communication skills for communications ranging from all employees, senior executives and the board of directors
Ability to present effectively and concisely to the C-level of the organization
Change mindset.This person must be open to change and have the ability to get other people motivated to work in new and better ways.
Demonstrated ability to influence and operate in a multi-cultural, geographically diverse global company
Skill in providing coaching and consultative support to C-level and senior leaders in the organization
Strong business influencing skills in a matrixed organization
Proactive, flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
Strong organizational effectiveness skills (group dynamics and cross-matrix expertise)
Ability to develop training and communication programs that effectively drive change and understanding, particularly within Manager/Director/Vice President levels of the organization
