We’re seeking a Head of Strategic Risk Management, based in our Vienna, Austria office .In this role, you will be responsible for managing the development, co-ordination and implementation of the enterprise-wide strategic risk framework that supports the Western Union bank’s sustainability.

That framework includes the development and implementation of the elements for timely identification, quantification and proactive management of all material risks in line with WUIB Risk Strategy and Risk Appetite.

  • Directs overall strategic risk management function for the WU International Bank aimed to set up state of the art comprehensive risk management framework system, complementing with best practices.

  • Manages definition of banks risk appetite and overall risk strategy framework, following banks business model, to support sustainable development on the long term.

  • In charge of the risk development and steering under ICAAP (economic) view, ensuring that banks operations are sufficiently covered with available risk capital. That includes: co-ordination of the risk materiality assessment for the bank, set up of appropriate methodology for quantification, recognition and management of capital requirements for the identified risks, definition of internal policies and regulation under economic view, execution of the overall stress test, capital allocation to specific risks and definition of limits , ongoing steering and definition of the forward looking managerial view to ensure risk awareness on all levels throughout company.

  • Defines efficient risk governance model, including key strategic policies and framework to manage each material risk relevant to the bank

  • Responsible for liquidity risk management , stress testing and reporting

  • Responsible for the quantitative models used for risk quantification and modelling

  • Responsible for the RWA methodology and calculation under Pillar 1

  • Responsible for risk data intelligence system

  • Drives annual review of WUIB Recovery Plan , co-ordinate multiple stakeholders from various functions and is accountable for the final product

  • Co-ordinate all regulatory interaction and communication from risk area

  • Responsible for independent risk assessment for products , including definition of risk costs to actively drive profitability of WU

  • Team management including definition of development plans, supports training for employees, coaches colleagues, prepares staff performance reviews, recommends and approves salary actions, hiring, terminations and promotions.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Deep experience in Risk Management at senior level (head of dept, or director), gained in a banking or financial services environment

  • Excellent knowledge of relevant general regulation banking requirements (CRR/CRD, MiFID, PSD, etc.) as well as specific regulations in EEA

  • Fluency in English (oral and in writing)

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the area of payment/banking services and processes

  • Strong financial modelling expertise

What will make you stand out:

  • A university degree in Finance or Business (or equivalent) or significant industry experience.

  • Any specific expert qualification useful for the role is advantage, but not a condition

  • Experience of a matrix organization in an international environment

  • Knowledge of German is desirable but not required
